About Bina
Welcome to Bina! I’m so glad you’re here.
Bina is a jewelry and craft studio created and run by me, Serena Faye Feingold. All the work you see here was hand-crafted in my studio in unceded Quinnipiac, Hammonassets, and Wappinger territories, on the Connecticut shoreline.
My inspiration for Bina comes both from Judaic styles and rituals that date back thousands of years, and modern artistic styles that feel fresh and relevant. Through this platform I seek to offer craftwork that is modern, bold, and refreshing, and at the same time, ancient and familiar.
My lifetime of love for ritual objects has brought me to the creation of this studio. I am always struck by the capacity of ritual objects to elevate a moment from the everyday to the remarkable, whether the object is spiritual, is about family and memory, or is simply about adorning yourself.
On the name “Bina”:
“Bina” has layered significance for me. Binah means Wisdom or Understanding. She is one of the ten Sephirot of Kabbalah and represents the womb or the divine mother.
“Bina[h] cannot be held in thought. She is...the meditative question, ‘Who am I?’ The questioning yields nothing that can be grasped, but rather, an intuitive flash illuminating and disappearing, as sunbeams play on the surface of water.”
— From “The Essential Kabbalah; The Heart of Jewish Mysticism” by Daniel C. Matt
"Bina" is also my oldest childhood nickname, so when I first began learning about Kabbalah and discovered the Sephira of Binah, I knew there was a connection there that I could not ignore.
Thank you for allowing me to share this work with you. I truly hope you find something (be it words or an object) here that adds meaning and beauty to your life.
Love,
Serena (Bina)
